Following my tradition since 2013, this is my last blog of the year and it’s about capturing what’s been done this year and what’s ahead. I call this approach my WOWs and Wants. For those of you who have been on my reader list from the start – I know this is now a tradition for you too :0)
In this, I record my WOWs for the year I’m just finishing up and my WANTs for the year ahead. I am as specific as possible. In my opinion this is a great tool to apply to your job/career, as well as your personal life. I also think it’s a great exercise to do with your partner or family.
I’ve booked some time for myself to reflect on this, Sunday. Then, like every December 31/January 1st I will sit and capture this in writing for myself.
Here’s my Kick off the Year blog from 2015, giving you some ideas on the areas you could consider for this exercise. Go for it. You’re worth it. And this feels (in my opinion) a lot better than the New Year Resolution approach.
Also – some (aka lots of) people attempt to change habits and are unsuccessful. In an insightful article on his blog, James Clear (author of Atomic Habits) shares five reasons why habits don’t always stick. Thought this may be helpful to read before you create your WANTs list: The five reasons include:
1. Trying to Change Everything at Once
2. Starting With a Habit That is Too Big
3. Seeking a Result, Not a Ritual
4. Not Changing Your Environment
5. Assuming Small Changes Don’t Add Up
Wishing you a year of good health and great people in your life – may that combination bring many wonderful life moments.
With love & gratitude
